Justin Hale --- Tremont High School
A message from the Principal of Tremont about Justin:
I am pleased to inform all that one of our students at Tremont Attendance Center was just named the state essay winner for the Mary Kirkpatrick Haskell Scholarship Foundation.
Justin Hale submitted the essay about meanings, universal truths, and lesson learned from personal experiences. The "Promises" essay contest was named for Sam Haskell's best-selling memoir
Promises I Made My Mother.
Justin was awarded the $5,000.00 scholarship as the state winner. This is just another example of the excellence that the students at our school have displayed this year.
Two ceremonies will be held in the Jackson area during the month of May, but there is one that I want to invite everyone to attend. Mr. Haskell has requested to visit our school to present the award to Justin.
I have scheduled our scholarship day to accommodate booking Mr. Haskell, and he will also be making a motivational speech for our students. This is scheduled for May 10 at 1:00 in our gymnasium.
Please let us know if you or any of your students wish to attend so we can make the necessary seating arrangements. Also, please forward this to the faculties or others who might be interested.
Sincerely,
Eddie Moore

Itawamba Agricultural High School Powerlifting Team 2010
The IAHS Indians finished second in the State Powerlifting Meet in Jackson on Saturday, April 17. Ben Brewer (148 class) and Deshawn McGaughy (198 class) both finished as state champions.
Brewer also set two personal bests en route to placing first including a 470 lbs squat and a 475 deadlift. His total was 1210 pounds. McGaughy won his third consecutive state championship.
He has not failed to win any competition in that time frame, winning district, north half, and state championships in 2008, 2009, and 2010.
The Indians also had three third place winners: Devonta Jackson (132 class), Dan Huddleston (165 class), and Kevin Marks (181 class).
Huddleston and Marks set personal bests in all three lifts, and Huddleston was the only Indian to make it all nine lifts.

Jamiaus Marion -- IAHS Student is Accepted into MSA
Sophomore Jamiaus Marion received wonderful news that he was accepted into MSA ( Mississippi School of the Arts) . Over 1,500 upcoming juniors from all over Mississippi applied, and only 103 were chosen. Yesterday, Jamiaus was interviewed about his thoughts and process of being accepted into MSA.
Why did you apply for MSA?
"I love the art of performing, and I wanted to get more in depth with my performance skills."
What did it take to apply for MSA?
"Long Applications! I had to meet certain requirements to even be considered for an interview."
After the interview, what was the next step?
"Auditions were then scheduled."
What did you have to do for your audition?
"I only applied for theatre and dance, so I had to perform a contrasting and unrehearsed monologue for theatre and ballet and modern dance skills for dance"
When you were told you were accepted, how did it make you feel?
"It was early in the morning, and I received a phone call from my mom saying, 'CONGRATS YOU MADE IT!'. I was completely shocked and very excited!"
What do you plan to do after MSA?
"I plan to attend Southern Miss and major in voice. Hopefully, one day I will be a star on Broadway, or maybe in a movie!"
Congratulations, Jamiaus!
